Abstract
Of the Southern folk poetry (SFP), there are quite a number of lexical items of subject evaluation with various denotations. In this paper, we investigate the lexical group of subject evaluation by the Southerners in SFP and divide it into 4 subgroups: the first of weak evaluation, decreasing in size; the second of strong evaluation, increasing in size; the third of positive evaluation, with empathy; and the final one of negative evaluation with antipathy. These lexical items are related to the Southerners’ culture, cognition and sophisticated evaluation of subjects with specific emotional expressions in which the human subjectivity of authentic recognition is clearly addressed.
