THAI LANGUAGE'S TONING SYSTEM

Abstract

Similar to Vietnamese, Thai language has tones. Through phoneme analysis, it is recognised that Thai language has 5 phoneme tones. Linguists have used modern devices in order to differentiate typical phonetics of Thai and started depicting them. Basing on that, the article shows the function and combination possibility of each tone in Thai language. The article also points out that there are 2 variants of 2 phonemes among the 5 phoneme tones. Thus, it can be said that there are 5 phoneme tones and 2 vibrants in Thai.
