Language contact and its corollaries for Japanese vocabulary
Abstract
The emergence of new words in a language often derives from two factors : the internal lexical development of the language to promptly reflect the development of the sociocultural community using it; and the borrowing from foreign languages for many reasons, which formed a vocabulary of foreign origin in the receptive language. This is a common language phenomenon and the appearance of words of foreign origin in a language can be considered a natural and inevitable phenomenon. In this article, the authors only focus on the formation process of borrowings in Japanese due to the influence of the contact with other languages and on the cultural and historical factors affecting it.
