THE SINO-VIETNAMESE IDIOMS - CONCEPT AND CLASSIFICATION

Abstract

Sino-Vietnamese idio ms are set phrase with all Sino-Chinese  elements, following the word-buiding rule of Chinese. Sino-Vietnamese  idioms  can be classified into 2 types: a. original  SinoVietnamese idioms are directly borrrowed and remain their original Chinese idioms; and b. Vietnamized Sino-Vietnamese  idioms, (consist of partly  Vietnamized  Sino-Vietnamese  idioms  and completely Vietnamized  Sino-Vietnamese  idioms). The presence of various types of  Sino-Vietnamese idioms in Vietnamese tells us about strong assimilation of  Vietnamese towards Sino elements  as well as the activeness and creativeness of Vietnamese people in receiving and  Vietnamizing foreign languages, which are Sino elements in this context
