GRAMMATICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF CONVERSION OF ENGLISH WORDS DENOTING HUMAN BODY PARTS

Abstract
Conversion is a productive type of word formation in English. Of the groups of nouns most likely subject to conversion, names of human body parts are seen as a fertile source of new words added to the stock of English vocabulary. Desp ite this fact, not much research has been conducted on how this type of nouns undergoes conversion. The aim of this article is to examine the grammatical characteristics of conversion of English words denoting human body parts, and, in the coming ones, systematically investigate the semantic aspect as well as the Vietnamese equivalents of the phenomenon.
