DYNAMIC EQUIVALENCE BETWEEN "WUTHERING HEIGHTS" AND ITS TRANSLATION IN VIETNAMESE BY DUONG TUONG

  • Triệu Thu Hằng

Abstract

The study was conducted to investigate translation methods adopted by Duong Tuong to achieve dynamic equivalence in the first ten chapters of “Wuthering Heights” and its translation “Đồi gió hú” in Vietnamese. Based on theories proposed by Nida (1964) and Newmark (1988), the research identified four main translation methods to gain dynamic equivalence including communicative translation, idiomatic translation, free translation and adaptation. Together with the significance of dynamic equivalence, studying translation methods to obtain dynamic equivalence could yield meaningful references for translators to deal with literary translation.
