SOME COMMON MISTAKES IN USING ENGLISH PASSIVE BY NON-MAJOR STUDENTS OF ENGLISH AT HỒNG ĐỨC UNIVERSITY

Abstract

It cannot be denied that English passive voice has its own properties, and it also causes non - major students of English at Hồ ng Đức University (HDU) a lot of difficulties due to its complexity, variety in forms and  meaning  when  compared  with  Vietnamese.  Because  of  its  significance,  this  paper  specializes  in investigating some common mistakes in using    English passive voice made by non- mafor students of English at HDU then suggesting solutions to overcome. In this paper, the mistakes in using English passive are listed systematically and logically so that it is easily understandable with the theory of English passive and suggestions. Further more, mistakes are also found in translating English passive sentences into Vietnamese ones. It is hoped that the find s as well as the suggestions will be helpful for both Vietnamese teachers and students of English.
