ONNOTATIONS AND USES OFSINO-VIETNAMESE WORDS

Abstract

The paper starts with an overview of Sino-Vietnamese words in Vietnamese lexis and their connotations. It then focuses on specific types: euphemism, honorific, writtenstyled, ancient and particularly technical nuances. Follow-up discussions are about the creativity and boundaries when using Sino-Vietnamese words, in order to contribute to the debate about standardized uses of Sino-Vietnamese words for Vietnamese people.
