CONCEPTUAL STRUCTURE OF LOVE IN LYRICS BY DIEN AN

Abstract

This study focuses on constructing LOVE concept in lyrics by Dien An with theories of metaphor and conceptual structure of emotions. In the aspect of emotion, LOVE consists of other basic emotional concepts, particularly HAPPINESS and SADNESS. The metaphorical system of LOVE includes two component systems: one of its own and the other of constituent emtions. In the former system, the mode LOVE IS A PERSON works as the primary metaphor, from which the metaphor entailment constructs a hierachical system with other metaphors. The latter system of metaphors, which came from the constituent emotional concepts, helps construct the whole system of LOVE.
