DISTINGUIGUISHING HABITUAL COLLOCATIONS FROM FREE WORD COMBINATIONS WITH THE SAME FORMS AND THEIR POSITIONS IN THE SENTENCE

Abstract

This paper attemps to distinguish some habitual collocations from free word combinations with the same forms and their positions in the sentence. Applying analytic procedure, meaning-preserving transformation and meaning-changing transformation we try to figure out some formal linguistic signs to help distinguish habitual collocations from free word combinations which have identicalforms and occur in the same places in the sentence. These findings can serve as a helpful reference to teachers and learners of the Vietnamese language.
