A contrastive analysis on the connotational meaning of colour words in English and Vietnamese idioms

Abstract

    The researcher's underlymg aim in carrying out this research is to discuss the connotational meaning of colour words in Vietnamese and English idioms. Five basic colours in life are mentioned in this study including black, white, blue, red and green. Through the comparison between two languages, I hope to find out the effect of Vietnamese perception of colours to the understanding of meaning of colours in English idioms. Hopefully, the result of this study will help students to define and overcome some difUculties in studying English idoms containing colours.
