Gender effects on vietnamese conversational interruption
Abstract
This study aims to explore the differences between the interaction styles of Vietnamese men and women. The study specifically examines two interaction patterns as seen in Vietnamese talk shows: interruptions, and reactions to intermptions. The data are analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. In the quantitative analysis, interruptions and reactions to intermptions are identified from the excerpts and categorized. In the qualitative analysis, the context of these various interruptions is closely examined, and the fiinctions of interruptions are presented. The results and implications are discussed.
