Improving learners' use of converted English words of human body parts

Abstract

    Previous research findmgs mdieate that most English words denoting human body parts undergo conversion, and in various ways. The converted words are then used as common words in the stock of Enghsh vocabulary, and become mfluential elements in the encodmg and decoding process. For this reason, if learners of EngUsh are well-equipped witii basic knowledge of tiiis special phenomenon of language, they will have advantages of producmg and receiving English texts. Withm the scope of the paper, we will identify and analyse the learners' mistakes in translatmg converted words of human body parts, and then put forwards some suggestions aimed at unproving tiie learners' use of these wonls.
