    The article presents and analyses: i) the political recognition on the role of civil society organisations; ii) the current state of institutionalization, policies and regulations on the role of civil society organisations in Vietnam; iii) theoretical and practical issues related to the role of civil society organisations under the new context; and iv) directions and guidelines on improving the role of civil society organisations in the development of a socialist-oriented market economy.
