Study on manufacturing a dual phase steel (DP)

Abstract

This paper shows studied results of making billets of a CMnSi dual
phase steel (DP) with high strength and good ductility which can be
used instead of the imported 10GNA steel. The study established the
relation between processing parameters and mechanical properties
through controlling microstructure of ferrite and martensite with grain
size less finer than 15 µm and volume fraction of martensite of 15 to
30%. The MIREX sponge iron melted-DP steel has low level of
impurities, alloyed by several micro-alloying elements and thermomechanical processed in a range of temperature AC1 to AC3 and
rapid-cooled in different environments. The studied process can be
applied in industry to manufacture steel billets for producing car
members and parts of weapon.
