Abstract

The quality of agricultural products in Vietnam has been improved, however, together
with the decrease of environment quality, especially the water quality in agricultural zone.
This paper presents the monitoring results of the agricultural wastewater quality in the Dong
Anh district, Hanoi city in the period from January 2013 to July 2017. The results showed that
the temperature was 14.9 - 36.3oC; DO: 0.1 - 5.2mg/l; TDS: 28.8 - 707.0mg/l; Conductivity:
22.9 - 1313.0μS/cm; TSS: 7 - 1018,6mg/l; COD: 6.0 - 331.6mg/l; Nitrite: 0.001 - 0.756mgN/l;
nitrate: 0.01 - 2.61mgN/l; ammonium: 0.02 - 3.11mgN/l; phosphate: 0.01 - 2.50mgP/l; total
phosphorus: 0.1 - 5.0mgP/l. Some variables such as DO, nitrite, ammonium, phosphate and
COD at some observed times and some sites exceed the permitted values of the Vietnam
National regulation for surface water quality QCVN 08-MT: 2015/BTNMT column B1. High
nutrient contents in wastewater reflected nutrient leaching from the fertilizer utilization
excess in agricultural areas and that may pose the eutrophication risk in the receiving water
environments. Therefore, a warning about the reasonable use of fertilizers in agricultural
cultivation should be given for Dong Anh district in particular and Vietnam in general.
