Business performance of small and medium enterprises in the context of technological revolution – a study from trade policies

Economic development in each country has been importantly contributed from business community, especially from small and medium enterprises (SMEs). In the context of the 4.0 technology revolution, the revolution has brought many opportunities for businesses in general, especially SMEs in particular in accessing business opportunities and the ability to apply technology in production. In addition, national trade policies are becoming important premises linking business activities of domestic enterprises and foreign markets. In this research, the authors conducted the impact of trade policies on business performance of enterprises in the context of the rapidly evolving 4.0 technology revolution. Using survey data at 190 small and medium-sized enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City, analyzed by SPSS software, the research results show that commercial policies at enterprises have not yet brought business efficiency, while other factors financial and operational experience of the enterprise has a positive or negative impact on the business performance of enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City. The study also confirmed that there is no impact of the quality of human resources and the relationship with partners on business performance. In addition, the study also suggests some policy implications to improve business performance in the context of rapid technological change nowadays.
