Wuxia novel – from Jin Yong to Gu Long

Abstract

“Modern wuxia novels” has close association with Jin Yong (Hong Kong) and Gu Long (Taiwan). Jin Yong has been known priorly to Gu Long, which entitles him as a senior. The success of Jin Yong used to be an unsurpassable legend of wuxia novels. However, legend is often ephemeral. The present of Gu Long has opened new pathway for wuxia novels. There is stark contrast in writing style of Jin Yong and Gu Long is. Therefore, it seems to be necessary examine two writers from a comparative perspective. This comparison aims to describe the prominent style of each writer and depict the link of wuxia novels, which is an imperative part of the whole popular culture in Chinese-speaking communities.
