Abstract

The Mekong Delta is the largest agricultural production center in Vietnam; however, it has consistently experienced a negative net migration rate in recent years, greatly affecting the region’s socio-economic development. This study analyzes the current state of migration, identifies its driving forces, and proposes solutions to mitigate outward migration. The analysis reveals that low income, lack of stable job opportunities, climate change pressures and infrastructure inadequacies are the key drivers of increasing migration. Based on these findings, the study suggests solutions to reduce outward migration from the region include economic development, local job creation, adaptation to climate change, improved water resource management, enhanced the quality of education and vocational training, infrastructure development, and improving healthcare and social welfare system
