Assessing potentail hydropower plan for transboundary water resources management and sustainable ultilization in Mekong river basin

Abstract

    Mekong river and its tributary have a great potential hydropower with total estimated capacity up to 53.000 MW, downstream countries with about 30.000MW including Lao, Cambodia and Vietnam, and the rest capacity mostly generated in China. It's very important to carry out researches on and orientation of optimal usage and management of water resources to develop such a great potential hydropower energy source. Besides, water sharing in transboundary context and environmental issues need to be considered, especially to downstream countries, to ensure equality and sustainability in the whole basin.
