Abstract

The Red River is the largest river in the northern Vietnam. Floods and droughts are hot issues in recent years in the Red River basin. Especially, under the impact of climate change and sea level rise these issues are more serious. Therefore, development of the hydrodynamic model to simulate floods is essential. This study constructed a numerical model for simulating floods in the Red River area in Hanoi. The finite difference method is applied to solve the shallow water equations on the staggered grid. The wetting and drying scheme was also considered in the study. The validation and calibration results of the mathematical model are given and discussed in this study.
