Selection of duration of design storm to simulate urban storm water drainage system

Abstract

     This paper presents a procedure to select duration of design storm to simulate urban storm water drainage systems. The study considered seven durations (0,5h, 1h, 2h, 3h, 6h, 12h and 24h) of the alternating block design storms derived from DDFs of Lang raingauge station, Hanoi, Vietnam.

    Using the combination of the design storm method and continuous simulation approach for a typical urban drainage basin in Hanoi, the study defined suitable duration of design hyetograph for different catchments such as duration of 0,5h for areas less than 3ha, 6h for areas between 20ha and 50ha, 24h for areas from 200ha up to 300ha.
