Abstract

Improving's living standards of residents, especially in mountainous areas and ethnic minority areas, is one of the important tasks to ensure nation’s socio-economic development. Muong Nha is a border mountainous commune located to the Southwest of Dien Bien dictrict (Dien Bien province) with mainly ethnic minorities living. This study utilized qualitative research methodsthrough semi-structured in-depth interviews with representatives of 25 households combined with  local field trip to understand the status quo of living standards of Muong Nha commune's population. The results show low and unstable people’s income; low level of education; uneven living condition; high rate of poor and near-poor households. This study contributes to supplementing the database on the standard of living of people in the Northern Midlands and Mountain in Vietnam.
