STRICT CONTROL REQUIREMENT FOR ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS OF SEA ENCROACHMENT PROJECTS
Abstract
Sea encroachment has taken place in many countries around the world as well as in Viet Nam, which is considered as a solution for socio-economic development in the context of increasing population and decreasing resources for development, especially land is increasingly limited. In Viet Nam, many sea encroachment projects have been implemented in the coastal provinces and cities. Sea encroachment has provided a positive and useful development direction for the future. However, sea reclamation activities can create risks and consequences as they change many factors in the natural topography and landscapes. The hydrodynamic regime and the shore current can be altered, impacting on ecosystems, biodiversity and marine resources as well as other social issues. Therefore, to ensure sustainable developments, strict control of environmental issues should be a mandatory requirement for sea encroachment projects.
