A GENERAL GEOLOGICAL APPROACH IN CONSTRUCTING OF NEW RURAL CENTRAL HIGHLANDS
Abstract
The Central Highlands of Viet Nam (Tây Nguyên) are a specific ecological region which has potential and advantages for socio-economic development. However, in the construction of new rural areas, the Central Highlands is still facing great challenges, the percentage of communes meeting new rural standards is the second lowest in the country (the lowest is in the Northern mountainous region). The research results have pointed out some basic reasons why the criteria for rural life quality are not achieved, that is, the deep division of natural and socio-economic conditions by territory, and exploitation of resources. unsustainable, precarious livelihoods, degraded environmental quality. At the same time, analysis also proved that the integrated geographical approach which is based on systematic, interdisciplinary and sustainable development perspectives is an appropriate and effective approach for the Central Highlands in building new rural areas.
