EXPLOITING THE ECONOMIC STRENGTHS OF THE HIGH-MIDLANDS OF THE NORTHERN VIET NAM UNDER GEOGRAPHICAL PERSPECTIVE
Abstract
The high-midlands of the Northern Vietnam have a particularly important strategic position, with diverse and rich natural resources and many unique cultural heritages. However, these zones are still some of the poorest regions in the country. This study used the method of analyzing and synthesizing documents, combined with a field survey to assess the development conditions and status. Research results show that some typical strengths that have been and are being exploited are: mining, mineral processing, hydropower; growing and processing industrial plants, medicinal plants, subtropical and temperate vegetables and fruits; raise cattle; international trade and marine economy and travel. Despite these advantages, the region faces some difficulties in the development process. On the basis of analyzing the strengths and limitations of the high-midlands of the Northern Vietnam, the article has proposed a number of solutions to effectively exploit the economic strengths of the region
