Using local materials to construct reinforced earth retaining walls in consideration of project life

Abstract

      This paper presents experiments, analysis and comparison of mechanical, physical and chemical properties of the soil and graded aggregate from the common mines in Danang city. Then the paper uses the standards (France, USA) to guide the application of materials which are used for Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE wall). The authors also stimulate the corrosion of the CT5 steel reinforcements by different reduced sections (0-5-10-15-20-25-30-35-40%) to determine the tensile strength and corresponding elongation that remain in reinforcement. The results are used in simulating the service life and the process of the degeneration of stress - strain - displacement of MSE walls through the open code software FLAC. The results of computation can be used for reference in MSE wall design and construction companies in Da Nang city.
