Vietnam- Myanmar trade relations from 2011 to 2021
Abstract
On the basis of aggregate data from the General Statistics Office of Vietnam, the World Bank, the research analyzes and evaluates the current status of Vietnam’s trade relations with Myanmar from 2011 to 2021. Analysis shows that the cooperation relationship between the two countries has had many notable highlights due to the fact that it has actively promoted the long-standing relationship traditions and has created favorable conditions for each other through participate in bilateral and multilateral mechanisms. The complementarity of economic structure and convenient geographical location for goods transportation have brought practical benefits to bilateral trade cooperation of the two countries. However, the two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Myanmar is still lower than that of each country with other countries in the ASEAN region. This fact comes from objective reasons such as being affected by the global economic
context, epidemics and subjective reasons such as government policies, political instability, and the flexibility of businesses. From that, the study makes some recommendations for the Government to promote trade
relations between Vietnam and Myanmar until 2030.
