Strategic autonomy in an Era of Nation’s resurgence.
Abstract
With epoch-making achievements during the era of independence and freedom (1945-1975), and major accomplishments of historical significance throughout the Renovation period (since 1986), Viet Nam has established a solid foundation for entering a new phase of national development. Building on this trajectory, the Party Central Committee has articulated and implemented strategic orientations aimed at successfully realising the objectives of the new development era. The draft documents submitted to the 14th National Party Congress explicitly highlight this orientation in the title of the Political report: “Strategic autonomy, self-reliance, confidence, and steady advancement in the era of national resurgence for peace, independence, democracy, prosperity, civilisation, happiness, and a firm progression towards socialism.” This article argues that strategic autonomy constitutes a core guiding principle for Viet Nam’s development strategy in the new era.
