Conditions for the formation of an Aerotropolis model to enhance the role of Can Tho as a regional growth pole

Abstract

Based on an assessment of Can Tho’s role as a regional growth pole and the theoretical 
framework of the Aerotropolis model, this article examines the institutional positioning of the city’s 
function as a regional development engine, issues relating to economic transformation and res
tructuring, the potential for aviation logistics infrastructure, and matters associated with the emer
gence of new development spaces in Can Tho in particular and the Mekong Delta more broadly, 
in the context of strengthening regional connectivity and international integration in the years 
ahead. The study thereby confirms that Can Tho possesses the necessary conditions to warrant 
consideration for the development of an Aerotropolis model.
