Abstract

Objective: To investigate the frst aid training needs and characteristics of high school students in Ho Chi Minh City during 2024–2025

Methods: A cross-sectional study used a stratifed random sampling method and collected data via a self-administered questionnaire among 2112
students from grade 10 to grade 12 in 2024-2025 of 21 randomly selected high schools in Ho Chi Minh City. Data were collected using a paper-based survey, including demographic information and variables regarding frst aid training needs.

Results: Among 1988 participating students, 95.62% expressed a need for frst aid training. The three most highly prioritized topics were stroke management (54.78%), cardiopulmonary resuscitation (44.72%), and drowning response (33.20%). A total of 68.26% of students preferred to receive training every six months. The demand for frst aid training was signifcantly associated with academic performance, prior participation in soft skills training, and previous experience either witnessing or engaging in real-life frst aid situations (p < 0.05). No signifcant association was found with conduct ratings or previous attendance in formal frst aid classes (p > 0.05).

Conclusions: There is a signifcantly high demand for frst aid training among high school students in Ho Chi Minh City. This provides a foundation for the proposal, development, and implementation of welltailored frst aid training programs.
