The role of social work in the hospital in Australia

Abstract

Objectives: Describe the importance of social work in hospitals, the practice of social workers in supporting the hospital system in Australia. Methodology: A review of literature from the Australian Association of Social Workers' Research on Social Work in Hospitals (AASW)-13 articles are quoted by authors. Results: Clarifying the specific activities of social workers in the hospital system in Australia such as counseling, assessment, crisis intervention, advocacy... for groups of clients support in the hospital. Discussion: The value of Social Work in hospitals in Australia for patients, caregivers, families and the community. Conclusion: In Australia, hospital social workers provide direct services to minimize the impact of illness during admission. Accordingly, social work is considered an essential and continuous service in the service chain that the hospital system provides.
