Abstract: Moby Dick – the White Whale, was a masterpiece of Herman Melville in 1851, forgotten in the era of a writer and repositioned in the twentieth century by the significant layers of the work, in which there is Moby Dick symbol. This article presents the multivalued attribute of the Moby Dick symbol through two main aspects: Moby Dick - the lord of the sea, the embodiment of Nature; Moby Dick – the violent nature and will to conquer nature of human. These are the two features that make up the multivalued, mysterious attribute of the Moby Dick symbol, one of the great symbols of American literature.
