Core competency framework for Vietnamese librarians in the 21st century
Abstract
The article analyses how new vision and development trends are creating new opportunities and challenges for the library industry in the world and Vietnam in the information era. These opportunities and challenges promote the active innovation and cooperation in the library industry, especially innovation in human resource training since the human factor plays a decisive role in the future of the library industry. Building the core competency framework is the first step of the process to innovate and improve the quality of human resource training. Based on the analysis on the current status of the human resource training in Vietnam and some competency frameworks of IFLA, U.S.A, Australia and Canada, the article recommends the application of the outcome standard approach based on CDIO methodology in human resource training in the library industry as well as the core competency framework for Vietnamese librarians in the 21st century.
