CFD SIMULATION OF THE THERMAL STORAGE BATTERY
Abstract
To evaluate the storage and discharge capacity of some types of heat
storage systems and the influence of installation and operating conditions on
system usage time, it is necessary to simulate operations using the
Computational fluid dynamic tool (CFD - ANSYS Fluent). After comparing the
experimental and simulation results, the simulation program gives accurate
results. The heat accumulation and release time of the sand material is shorter
than that of the oil-sand mixture, the phase change material (PCM) has the
longest heat accumulation and release time. For sand batteries, when
increasing the number of air pipes, the total usage time will increase, if the
inlet temperature of hot air rises, the total heat accumulation and discharge
time will remain unchanged. The simulation results give the basis to extend
the application of heat storage systems in systems that use renewable energy
effectively.
