Abstract

The article presents the results of a study on the influence of storage time on the
quality degradation and calorific value of subbituminous coal (inported from
Indonesia) at Vietnamese thermal power plants. The research findings indicate that
the prolonged use and storage of the sub-bituminous coal in large quantities lead to
a decrease in both the overall quality and calorific value of the coal. The gross calorific
value of the coal decreases by 118 - 122kcal/kg and 233 -250kcal/kg when the
storage time in open storage is approximately 1 month and 2 months, respectively.
For coal stored in enclosed storage (with a roof), the grossl calorific value decreases
by 104 - 106kcal/kg and 219 - 231kcal/kg after 1 month and 2 months of storage,
respectively. This demonstrates that the presence of a roof has a significant effect in
reducing the decline in the calorific value of the coal during long-term storage.
