Research directions on the relation between culture and language

Abstract

The relation between culture and language is studied in an interdisciplinary field called “cultural linguistics” or “cultural studies of language”. After analyzing the subject of cultural linguistics, the article presents three main trends in the study of the relation between culture and language: finding culture in language; finding language in culture; and the interaction between culture and language in communication. At the end of the article, the author points out the main achievements and limitations in this research field.
