THE IMPACT OF VIDEO MICROLEARNING ON ENGLISH LISTENING SKILLS OF NON-ENGLISH-MAJOR STUDENTS AT DONG NAI TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of microlearning video materials on the development of English listening skills among non-English-major students at Dong Nai Technology University (DNTU). The study  employed  a semi-controlled experimental design with the participation of 80 first-year students, divided into experimental and control groups. During the six-week intervention period, the experimental group received listening instruction using microlearning video materials, while the control group used traditional learning methods based on audio files. Data were collected through pre- and post-intervention listening tests, learning attitude surveys, and semi-structured interviews. The results showed that the experimental group achieved significantly higher improvements in listening skills compared to the control group, with a relatively large effect size. Furthermore, qualitative data reflected students' positive attitudes toward the use of video, particularly in terms of increased concentration, contextual understanding, and enhanced learning motivation. These findings demonstrate that video microlearning materials are an effective tool for teaching listening skills to non-English-major students, and provide pedagogical implications for integrating technology into English language teaching at the university level.
