EXPLORING RESEARCH TRENDS ON FEAR OF MISSING OUT (FOMO) IN YOUNGERS: BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS WITH VOSVIEWER AND BIBLIOSHINY
Keywords
Abstract
Fear of missing out (FoMO) is a psychosocial phenomenon that is increasingly prevalent in the context of young people's increasingly intensive interactions with social media and digital platforms. This study uses bibliometric analysis to systematise research trends on young people's FoMO in the digital age. Data were collected from the Scopus database, including 38 documents published between 2018 and 2025. Two tools, VOSviewer and Biblioshiny (R), were used to analyse co-citation analysis, keyword co-occurrence, and thematic maps. The results show five topics: FoMO and adolescent risk, FoMO and social media addiction, mental health, FoMO and well-being, FoMO and digital consumer behaviour, and FoMO and loneliness. The analysis of the topic evolution shows that research on FoMO is shifting from individual factors to social factors and shopping behavior, and is opening up new emerging topics. This study serves as an overview knowledge map, contributing to clarifying the academic structure and development direction of the FoMO research topic in the digital era.
