Abstract

The qualitative and quantitative methods are made use of in the current research. The qualitative method is conducted with 50 newly established business owners through the answer to the question “What comes to your mind when you think of market factor?” in coordination with the interview with 5 business owners and 3 academicians to generate the pool items for the market factor as well as identifying the meaning and adjusting the variables in the conceptual model in order to get insight into their perceived desirability and perceived feasibility for entrepreneurial decision. Meanwhile, the quantitative method is utilized to examine the data from a survey of 870 owners of small and medium newly established businesses for less than 3 years across the northern plain area of Vietnam. The questionnaires have been sent to the newly established business owners who have attended at least one entrepreneurial course. The findings shed light on the factors (start-up support, start-up education and market factors) which positively affect the decision of becoming a business owner through perceived desirability and perceived feasibility. Moreover, perceived desirability influences positively and significantly the decision of becoming a business owner while perceived feasibility positively impacts the decision of becoming a business owner. Through it, the research proposes some theoretical and practical implications.
