Impacts of website-based grammar learning on the grammatical competence of English language majors: a mixed-methods study.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of learning grammar through the online platform Gramify on the grammatical competence of English language majors. Adopting a mixed-methods approach with a quasi- experimental design, the study was conducted with two first-year classes at Quy Nhon University. The experimental group, consisting of 40 students, practiced grammar using Gramify for eight weeks, whereas the control group, comprising 54 students, learned through traditional paper-based exercises. Data were collected through pre- and post-tests of grammatical competence, together with a survey examining students’ perceptions of ease of use, usefulness, and satisfaction. The findings indicate that the use of Gramify significantly improved students’ grammatical competence compared with the traditional learning method, thereby suggesting the potential for integrating online learning platforms into grammar instruction in higher education.
