Night economy: Origin, concept and analytical framework

Abstract

This paper initially discussed the origin, perspectives and roles of the night economy. Based on an overview of international research, the study proposes an analytical framework focusing on clarifying factors affecting the development of the night economy; and indicators for measuring/evaluating night economy development on the basis of supply – demand and customer satisfaction approaches. In particular, six different aspects of service vitality in night economic development are pointed out: (1) night – food services; (2) night – shopping services; (3) tourism services; (4) entertainment services; (5) accommodation services; (6) health care services. Based on six different aspects, this study proposes an analytical framework and a set
of specific indicators to evaluate the development of the night economy.
