The tradition of “serve Buddhism and enhance patriotism, protect the country and reassure the people, accompany the nation" in Buddhism during the Ly – Tran dynasties
Abstract
“Serve Buddhism and enhance patriotism, protect the country and reassure the people, accompany the nation” is a tradition in Buddhism during the Ly – Tran dynasties. Its formation can be traced back to the period that Buddhism was introduced to Giao Chau, due to early adaptation to objective situations and subjective available conditions. That tradition flourished mainly in the Ly – Tran dynasties with manifestations in gathering activities, propagation of Buddhism, political, diplomatic, and cultural activities of the Buddhist Sangha and the Buddhists, contributing to forming and developing an independent and autonomous feudal nation, creating a golden age of Dai Viet culture: Ly – Tran culture. By promoting the tradition of “serve Buddhism and enhance patriotism, protect the country and reassure the people, accompany the nation” in Buddhism in the Ly – Tran dynasties, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha with the guideline “Dharma – Nation – Socialism” is contributing significantly to the construction and development of the nation nowadays.
