Abstract
The 1836 land survey in Southern Vietnam (đạc điền Nam Kỳ) marked an important turning point in land management and governance under the Nguyễn Dynasty, with significant economic, political, cultural, social, and security implications for both the southern region and the entire country. Emperor Minh Mệnh was determined to carry out the survey with the aspiration of bringing benefits to the people and to the nation. This article presents the role of Trương Đăng Quế in the implementation of the 1836 land survey in Southern Vietnam.
