Abstract
Participating in economic production and development is one of the three tasks and functions of the Vietnam People's Army. Since its establishment, in addition to the mission of fighting and being ready to fight to protect the Fatherland and maintain national defense, the Vietnam People's Army has made significant contributions to the economic front. During the peaceful period in Northern Vietnam (1955-1964), the army became the vanguard in the reconstruction of the socialist North. During the period of resistance against the US, saving the country (1964-1975), when the resistance against the US entered a tough stage, tens of thousands of troops participating in economic construction were sent back to the battlefield in the South to participate in combat service or direct combat. After the war ended, the army was again played a heavy responsibility to heal wounds of war and participating in building and developing the country socio-economically. After 1975, nearly 290,000 troops went to build and develop new economic zones in Vietnam’s key areas. During the renovation period since 1986, the army's economic construction and production experienced comprehensive developments. In particular, military enterprises - the main force of the army performing production and economic construction tasks have contributed significantly to national economy. After 1986, many military enterprises were established and operated in most economic sectors. In the period between 1986 and 1998, the army formed three types of enterprises participating in economic construction: defense enterprises, defense economic enterprises and specialized economic enterprises. Military enterprises clearly demonstrated the "dual-use" nature, serving both people's lives and the country's defense needs.
