Easing the Strength of the People - A Foundation of Ho Chi Minh Thought On Agriculture, Farmers, and Rural Areas

Abstract

From ancient times, our ancestors taught: “Without agriculture, there is no stability; without knowledge, there is no prosperity.” Simply put, this means that without agriculture, society cannot be stable; and if people lack education and knowledge, the country cannot flourish. For Vietnam, a predominantly agricultural country with over 70% of its population living in rural areas, food security must be given top priority. Therefore, immediately after the success of the August Revolution, in early 1946, President Ho Chi Minh affirmed to the nation and its people: “Our country is an agricultural country. Our economy is based on agriculture”. Thus, from ancient times to the present day, agriculture in Vietnam has held a particularly important position and role in the existence and development of society. This is vividly reflected in Ho Chi Minh’s thoughts on agriculture, farmers, and rural areas.
