Study on the impact of coastal water levels on flood drainage processes in the Kien Giang river, Quang Binh province
Abstract
This study evaluates the impact of coastal water levels on flood drainage in the Kien Giang river, Quang Binh province, using the MIKE modeling suite developed by DHI. Simulated scenarios include floods at warning levels 1, 2, and 3 during high tides, average tides, and low tides, as well as floods at the same warning levels under the influence of storms during these tidal phases. The study analyzed flood drainage conditions based on the inundated areas of each scenario, revealing that inundation areas tend to increase from low tides to high tides, significantly heightening flood risks. This research provides a scientific basis and critical data for flood response efforts and contributes to the sustainable development of coastal and downstream regions of the Kien Giang River, which are frequently impacted by natural disasters.
