Assessment of environmental protection education activities for pre-school kids in Phu Dien ward, Bac Tu Liem, Hanoi
Abstract
The environment has a significant effect on all daily activities of children. In Vietnam, the environmental education program has been recently taught at all kindergartens, the foundation of the national education system for the formation and improvement of human personality. This study aims to assess the current status of environmental protection education and awareness of pre-school kids at Ho Tung Mau kindergarten and Vietkids kindergarten in Phu Dien ward, Bac Tu Liem, Hanoi. The results showed that two studied kindergartens had enough equipment for playing, studying and comprehensive development of pre-school kids. The environmental education program was suitable with pre-school kids' cognitive abilities. Teachers had basic knowledge about the environment and they were interested in teaching children to protect the environment via things and events happen in daily life. Most pre-school kids were aware of maintaining the general hygiene, storing school supplies in the right place. They also know how to take care of plants, animals, efficiently use water, put garbage in the right place and remind their relatives in maintaining clean environment as well as protecting the environment. This study also found that pre-school kids had recognised some activities that pollute the environment.
