06. Development and productivity of Gynostemma pubescens, Gymnema silvestre and Curculigo orchioides cultivated in Dai Dinh commune, Tam Dao district, Vinh Phuc province
Abstract
Vinh Phuc is located in the transition area between the mountainous and the detal area. With the suitable climatic and soil conditions, Vinh Phuc has a rich biodiversity of medicinal plants, including Gynostemma pubescens, Gymnema Silvestre and Curculigo orchioides. Studied results showed that the survival rate of Gynostemma pubescens was up to 87%; germination rate of Gymnema silvestre was higher than 82%; survival rate of Curculigo orchioides was about 77%. The results also indicated that the height, number of branches (for Gynostemma pubescens and Gymnema silvestre) or leaf area index and root length (for Curculigo orchioides) increased continuously within the experiment periods of 15, 30 and 45 days. The yields of Gynostemma pubescens, Gymnema silvestre and Curculigo orchioides were 24 tons/ha/year, 3.7 tons/ha/year, 1.95 tons/ha/year, respectively. As calculated with current prices, the value obtained from planting these medicinal plants is about 360 - 585 million VND/ha/year. The results of this study are vital for managers to have investment strategies in order to expand the model of planting these species in Vinh Phuc province, contributing to the increase of income for local people as well as the conservation of valuable medicinal plants.
