10. Current situation of plastic waste in household activities and proposed management solutions in Thanh Xuan district, Hanoi city

Abstract

In order to assess the current situation of plastic waste generation in household activities in Thanh Xuan district, Hanoi city, thereby proposing appropriate management solution, from December 2021 to June 2022. Research results show that the average generation coefficient of plastic waste in Thanh Xuan district, Hanoi city is 0.124 kg/person/day. In which, LDPE plastic accounts for the highest proportion with 25.16 %, followed by PP plastic with 19.85 %, followed by PS plastic with 16.48 %, followed by HDPE plastic with 14.28 %, followed by PVC plastic with 9.36 %, then PET plastic with 9.06 %, the lowest was other plastics with 5.8 %. People have a clear awareness of the harmful effects of plastic waste, but changing the habit
of limiting the use of plastic products is a big challenge for managers. The study also proposed solutions to reduce plastic waste in household activities, which are policy and legal solutions; Solutions for education, communication and community awareness raising in the study area
